The Cornish Coasts

It is thought that wherever you are in Cornwall, you are never more than 17 miles from the nearest beach. With over three hundred stunning beaches to choose from, we are truly spoilt for choice when it comes to finding Cornwall’s best beaches.

Our fantastic location in the southwest means that not only do we have access to a large quantity of beaches, but that each coastline also has its own unique characteristics.

The North Coast is best known for its miles of flat, golden sandy beaches edged by rugged cliffs. This wildly beautiful and dramatic part of the coast has been to known to inspire many authors and artists over the years. It also has the ideal sea and wind conditions to produce world-renowned surf all year round. Miles of coastal cliff paths and sand dune areas make a great walk, whatever the weather, and provide brilliant views of the Atlantic along the way.

Along the north coast are some of Cornwall’s most iconic seaside towns including Padstow, Port Isaac, and St Ives. Each one home to a thriving arts and food scene, with fresh seafood being a local delicacy.

The South Coast is more sheltered with calmer waters and an array of hidden coves. This tranquil part of Cornwall is the ideal place to either explore on foot or by boat. Here, the coastal paths can easily lead you up river estuaries, across woodland, and into exotic sub-tropical gardens, while still being next to the coast. Scenic spots like the Helford River are perfect for swimming, kayaking or snorkelling in crystal clear waters.

Along the south coast, you’ll find the harbour towns of Falmouth and Fowey – rich in maritime history, while there are plenty of picturesque fishing villages and market towns to explore at every turn.

Every part of the Cornish coastline offers stunning sea views, local wildlife, and plant species from all over the world. It also highlights some of Cornwall’s most important history and culture; from castles and engine houses to the caves and rocky coves where legends of mermaids and giants were born, Cornish beaches have plenty to offer.
