National Trust in Cornwall

The National Trust is just wonderful; the array of properties, land and gardens they have is both fascinating and breathtaking and with National Trust membership, you can enjoy all their sites (and free parking!) all year round.

 

Cornwall is lucky enough to have an array of National Trust properties to visit whilst on holiday so here’s our run down of the top properties to visit.

 

1. Trelisick Gardens

A truly wonderful place with beautiful gardens to stroll round (see the spectacular camellias at this time of year), coastal walks, fields to yomp through, a lovely little beach and a stunning house to see including its newly refurbished orangery. They also have a great cafe (the flapjack and cake is a must!), ample parking and activities and events all year round.

2. Lanhydrock

A breathtaking stately home presented as it was lived in during the Victorian era. Explore the house and learn about its fascinating history then enjoy the sweeping grounds with many walks and bike trails.

3. Cotehele

This month sees Cotehele’s famous daffodil week where numerous species of daffodils can be seen in bloom including 200 year old varieties. After enjoying the array of flowers visit the Tudor house and see how the family who have owned this estate for over 600 years lived. Also a great place to take dogs as it has over 1300 acres of woodland paths.

4. Crantock Beach

This is a beautiful and serene beach with ample National Trust parking. Enjoy a walk over the sand dunes or along the vast stretch of beach and estuary when the tide is out. Facilities in the summer include beach hire, life guards and a mobile ice-cream man!

5.Port Quin

A sheltered cove on the rugged north coast and close to the popular historic villages of Tintagel, Boscastle and Port Issac. This unspoilt area boasts breathtaking walks along the coastline north of the holiday village of Polzeath.

6.East Pool Mine

Not your average National Trust property, East Pool Mine is steeped in Cornish mining heritage. Visitors can be shown around the mine, marvel at the impressive beam engine houses and learn about Cornwall’s historic past that shaped it.

7. Trerice

A stunning Elizabethan Manor  with historic rooms, nooks, crannies and fascinating features and artefacts. The house is also surrounded by lovely gardens, perfect for spending an afternoon enjoying.
