The house is not your typical holiday let, it is a family home, lived in and used to its full extent. If you are looking for a place to unwind, in a house with its own particular style, and where the kitchen is the heart then this house is for you.
The entrance hall leads, to the left to bedrooms and the first floor and to the right to the main living area. Through the formal dining room, with large dining table and tapestry covered chairs, to the open plan living room and kitchen. Lots of fantastic old reclaimed French beams and reclaimed oak floors, beautifully shiny and warming to look at and walk on. The main living room has a large open fire, surrounded by a great club fender. Cosy, comfortable seating, reflecting the owner’s eclectic taste and love of family. There is also a round table in this room for more informal dining.
The kitchen has a deep blue, double top gas Aga, although there is an electric cooker in the nearby utility for extra cooking facilities. Fitted kitchen cupboards and contemporary double sink area, with composite worktop. The kitchen is functional and provides all the necessary paraphernalia of a good kitchen, with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, larder, etc. Washing machine and dryer are to be found in the utility room, off the kitchen, also used as a ‘boot room’, having an access door to the garden. WiFi.
There is a lot of Spanish and French furniture, a result of the owners’ yearly visits to the continent, where they have a property in France. Off the living area and leading to the back garden is a conservatory or vinery, housing a vine that during the summer spreads its leaves and tendrils over the roof. The vinery is also home to a number of ‘silly cabbages’ or ‘money plants’ as they are sometimes called. From the main entrance hall there is a double bedroom, with wash hand basin and a built in wardrobe. There is a cupboard in the hall housing all manner of games for a rainy day and a further double bedroom with built-in wardrobe. There is also a bathroom on this ground floor with hand-held shower.
A galleried landing leads to ‘the Throne Room’. This is a bathroom, with a separate shower cubicle, a couple of linen cupboards and ‘The Throne’, being a beautifully concealed modern wc! There is a single bedroom with small wardrobe, a twin bedroom with en-suite bath, with hand-held shower and a further double bedroom, with wardrobe. The master bedroom has a dressing area, and four-poster bed. A large window looks out across the garden to the views beyond. The bathroom has a freestanding bath.
The situation of the house provides really spectacular views of the Camel Estuary with Padstow on one side and Rock on the other. The grounds are family friendly, although there is a small pond near the house, bbq and outdoor seating, close to the house. Further down the garden the outdoor (unheated) pool is fenced off and there is a very good full sized tennis court at the bottom of the garden, also fenced off. There are a number of toys for children to play with and there is croquet for all the family. Cot and highchair also available.
Browns Barn is built for fun, family holidays. Located at Whitecross, near the bottom of a small lane, with parking on site. Up to 2 well-behaved dogs allowed.
Browns Barn was converted about forty years ago and extended approximately ten years later to provide a comfortable family home that has been, and remains, a retreat for the owners and the younger generation of the owner’s family. The house is half tiled with slate tiles.
You are eight minutes from Wadebridge, with all the facilities of a small town. Only six minutes from a supermarket. The closest beach, at Harbour Cove is only ten minutes away.
Wadebridge is on the Camel Trail, from Bodmin to Padstow and it’s possible to hire bikes at Wadebridge and cycle along the trail to Padstow in one direction and Bodmin in the other direction. It’s a level cycle ride to Padstow, so is a comfortable walk too for those that prefer a slightly slower pace!
You can park right outside and the front door, slightly to the right, is a great old reclaimed door.
