Trevoyan, St Merryn, nr Padstow

Trevoyan, St Merryn, Padstow, CornwallThe north coast between Newquay and Padstow is one of the most popular areas of Cornwall and includes dramatic cliffs, rocky coves, sandy beaches (there are seven close by) for children and of course surfing beaches, as well as many wonderful places to visit and things to do. South of Trevose Head, which is between Constantine Bay and Harlyn Bay, Trevoyan is on the road just inland of the coast between Porthcothnan Bay and St Merryn. Trevoyan is a listed farmhouse, with lawns and a gravelled drive from the pair of fine ornamental egg-ball finial granite piers at a gate by the road.

The old mediaeval house is still at the back of the C17th, C18th and late Georgian house built to its front and side. This was then further extended around 1860 to provide a west wing. Trevoyan, St Merryn, PadstowFurther extensions to the rear, a pleasant old stone structure and slate roof provide a good looking and interesting old house, whose interior is charming, if a bit confusing. The north west wing has been renovated as “Wreckers”. That wing has two sound proofed doors, which can be opened for those looking to combine the two houses. The house is close to the sea and beaches and has fields on all sides and views to the horizon. Beyond the garden behind the house is a large listed barn, a pond with ducks, and further barns. The older style furniture includes a four-poster bed and a selection of books. The layout and furnishing are comfortable rather than modern, with many old features retained. Popular with families and children. This is a fine old listed house in the countryside, close to a good selection of beaches, and close to all one could wish for a Cornish holiday.

Interior at Trevoyan, St Merryn, PadstowAfter a stone porch, the front door leads to a stone flagged passage with the kitchen to the left and a sitting room on the right. The back door leads to lawn running round three sides of the house. The large sitting room on the south west corner includes a large table and baby grand piano. There is a second sitting room with open fire, and a fireplace in the breakfast area. Up the 18th century dog-leg stair, Trevoyan has five bedrooms sleeping 11, one bathroom with bath and a second room with shower but no bath. One of the bedrooms has a large four poster with orthopaedic mattress. T.V.s are in the east sitting room and in the bedroom above. The kitchen has modern units, a fitted electric double oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, a breakfast area and a second snug to one side. There is a coal operated Rayburn stove for extra cooking and heating. There are also electric radiators, storage heaters and a gas radiator. Upstairs, the floors are mostly fully carpeted. Downstairs, and elsewhere, there are rugs and carpets. The separate utility has washing machine, tumble drier, deep freeze and a stone sink. There is a large garden with lots of lawn, and many extra features, including a wendy house. Private parking. Dogs allowed.

If combined with Wreckers and Swallows, each of which has its own garden, can sleep up to 19
