Swallows is between Newquay and Padstow and just inland of the coast between Porthcothnan Bay and St Merryn. At the seaward end of an old farmstead, you can see across the fields to Treyarnon Bay. The nearest beach is walkable, down the hill to the west. There are many sandy beaches close by- the parish of St Merryn claims one for each day of the week. There is also good surfing and smaller beaches below the cliffs. This area has plenty of facilities and activities but is also a good place to base a touring holiday of the area.
Trevoyan is an old listed farmstead, with a scatter of lovely weathered grey and brown stone buildings under large rag slate roofs. The large eighteenth century barns are still part barn and part accommodation with the owner living in one wing. Swallows is a new renovation at the end of the building. Trevoyan and Wreckers, which are separately described, together with the old barns and gardens, form a magnificent backdrop for Swallows. All are owned by the same couple. Swallows has private parking right by the front door, and there is a small private garden to three sides. There is a larger area of garden and ornamented horse pond and loggia just beyond this with views of the fields on all sides. North of the house is a large buttercup pasture in which cows are grazing and from which you can see clear to Treyarnon bay and beyond. Trevoyan is a private house and farmstead in a private and lovely country setting, which is also at the heart of one of the most popular areas of Cornwall.
Swallows is at one end of barns built in the 18th century. The north range has a lovely burnt sienna lichen covered slate roof. The cottage is built partly of slatey stone, some slate hanging, part slate & part lead roof, and is on a single storey. The entire building is attached to the northern end of North Barn. The owners live in that wing to the immediate south of Swallows.
The entrance on the east is by a stable door into a corridor with exposed stone walls. On the right is then a bedroom fitted with a pair of beds which can be joined. Large double glazed french windows look east over a timbered patio and garden area with walls, pavements, bench, Buddha. Behind the bedroom is a bathroom, with floor of slate tiles, some exposed wall and a 6ft Jacuzzi bath with a shower attachment. The sitting room has french windows to the garden the other side, looks south west and has exposed stone slate walls, country dresser, books & timbered ceiling with down lights. Large TV with DVD. Beyond the dining table is a fitted kitchen with washing machine, tumble drier, microwave, fridge/freezer and gas boiler. The floor is carpeted. The windows are double glazed. There is a sofa bed to allow an extra two people to sleep in the sitting room.
On the west is a timber paved and slate decked area and a wall around the house looking over other gardens together with private areas of lawn looking over a large pond with much statuary and a cast iron pergola. Lots of lawn outside and private parking. Dogs Allowed.
