Pennant Farmhouse is about a mile south of Port Isaac on the road from St Endellion. As you come down the drive, there are stunning views of Port Isaac, the north coast and the fields around the farm. This farmhouse, is largely the 1760s rebuild of a smaller cottage. That rebuild used much carved stone from an earlier Tudor mansion and much of this old stonework can be seen around the house, which is built of walls over two feet thick. The roof has a 15th century ridge tile. The high east chimney of double-diamond pattern is unusual for this area. The farmhouse is still the heart of a working farm which has been in the same family for generations, and whose owners are happy to show visitors around the farm or point out some of the many fine walks.
The site is good, convenient and only a mile or two east of the beaches at Polzeath. The farmyard to the rear is no longer used, and the fine traditional stone buildings, which are some way to the north, will be slowly renovated. This is a large farmhouse in a good position. Port Isaac is well known, and is so pretty that it and the surrounding countryside are used for many TV and film productions. Although the area has many pubs and restaurants, other good less well-known places are only two or three miles away. And of course there are Polzeath and Rock three miles to the west. To the northwest is much National Trust land, with hidden sandy coves, cliff walks and rocky pool beaches. Pennant Farmhouse has been comfortably renovated and re-equipped to provide a fine family holiday home, in the best of areas.
Pennant Farmhouse is down a long drive and has a disused farm yard behind the house and a large walled garden to the south. The conservatory style porch leads to a large hall with slate flags, an old harmonium and a small pool table. To the left is the carpeted second sitting room, with TV and old granite fireplace. To the right of the hall is a large sitting room with planked floors, big fireplace, wood burning stove, TV & stereo system. An arch at the back of the hall leads to a kitchen about 37 ft long with dining table to one end. The kitchen has new work units (2004), & is well equipped including all new equipment, crockery & so on, 4 ring electric cooker, single oven with grill, oil fired four oven Aga with warming ovens, dishwasher, microwave, fridge. The slate floor has vinyl to the kitchen end. The adjoining utility has two further fridges, washing machine & drier. An old back stair leads from the kitchen to the bedrooms. The back door has a porch and small rear yard with a building where the owners live. Upstairs, a long corridor has five bedrooms and three bathrooms (including shower room).
There is one large double room, a second double room, two rooms with bunks, and one with three single beds and a pullout bed. All bathrooms were new 2004. All upstairs rooms carpeted in single colour. The house has double glazing, thick granite walls, and much exposed stone work. Out of sight to the east of the house is the working farm, which includes some residential caravans. The large garden, which faces south, is neat and tidy with interesting trees & shrubs, large patio area, brick built barbecue, garden seats & benches, and has stone walls to two sides. Dogs allowed.
