Lower Bosvarren, a listed Elizabethan farmhouse, is in the little farming hamlet of Bosvarren, up a tree-lined drive in unspoilt country four miles west of Falmouth. It retains its arched stone front door and much remains of the original 1620s renovation. Extended in the late eighteenth century and the early nineteenth century, there is a fair amount of space.
This was the most important farm in the hamlet, once one of the richer in the parish. It's a Celtic site built well down the hill, and with granite built two storey barns behind the house. The garden and courtyard are a natural sun trap and very good for children, barbecues and sunbathing. Bosbenna is about 40 yards away behind walls, across the track. The house has been renovated so as to retain its original appearance and features, including its slate roof of small scantles. The outer kitchen includes yet a third enormous fireplace which may have been for feeding pressganged sailors, or if you are more prosaic, nineteenth century pigs. The surrounding countryside, part of an estate, is open for walks, or exploration. There are beaches of differing types close at hand and Falmouth, Helston, the Lizard Peninsula and south west Cornwall are all within half an hour's drive. There is a prize winning pub a couple of miles away. Small children can bike round the tracks of the farm; horse riding stables close by. This is a popular and happy house.
Lower Bosvarren has two comfortable sitting rooms, each with sofas, enormous granite fireplaces and wood burning stoves. TV. The long breakfast room and kitchen have some exposed granite walls and a big table. The outer kitchen is beyond it. There are four good sized double bedrooms. One bedroom has king size bed & duvet. There are two bathrooms. The one upstairs has a shower over the bath, and downstairs there is a large walk in shower. The kitchen has a built in oven, inset hob, microwave, fridge. The outer kitchen has dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer and oil fired boiler.
All rooms have fitted carpets save for tiles in the utility and vinyl in the kitchen and bathroom. The house was redecorated in 2004 & 6. The rooms are all of unusual proportions and shapes & include areas of granite stonework and two granite bread ovens. Good for children. Cot and high chair available. Large south facing lawns and yard and range of renovated old stone barns. Private parking and enclosed yard and garden. Oil fired central heating. Walks around farmland. Dogs allowed.
