Harry's Court, St Ives

St Ives was once an important fishing and landing place. It is on the north coast about twenty miles from Lands End at the end of a curving bay often called one of the world’s most beautiful. This has miles of sandy beaches. The town has a fifteenth century church and many small alleys and little streets lined by varied stone houses, all of which deserve exploration. In 1801 a wall was built against the beach to improve protection for the fishermen. On this in turn were built cottages which, during the 19th century, had artists’ studios on the first floor.

St Ives also has the Tate Modern and other galleries, and many small shops of quality, bistros, fish restaurants and smaller galleries, since St Ives has been a famous home of artists for 150 years. The coast south has magnificent cliffs and dramatic scenery. The town is charming and deservedly popular. The beach of fine sand is just one of many delights. The house provides a really good holiday, and is comfortable, accessible and in an astonishing position.

Harry’s Court is an intriguing, perhaps quaint, courtyard, once six small houses, now converted to three built along and behind that wall. No.5 Harry’s Court was two cottages. It has astonishing views from windows and balconies built over the beach. Here you can see the curving shore, the hills, the Island, the golden sands, the sea and surf. It really is an amazing place to visit and stay.

Harry’s Court is entered through an archway from the street, down steps into a small courtyard. The front door leads into the kitchen, newly designed and refitted (spring 2007). It has gas hob and cooker, microwave, washing machine, fridge/freezer. A breakfast table is by the window seats. Off the entrance area is a downstairs WC. The large sitting room has a dining table at one end. At the other end are sofas round the fireplace (which has a gas fire).Fully carpeted with good furniture. This is a big room with large windows and window seat looking over the coast and above the beach. There is a second walk and sit-in bay window which looks over the beach and which also has a door to along outside balcony.

In the corner is a winding stair to the first floor. The main bedroom with double bed has many modern fitted cupboards, a window seat to the wide window over the beach and a wash basin in the corner. The second bedroom is good sized and has a seated window bay over the sea and twin beds. The third smaller bedroom has twin beds and a wash basin in the corner. Just before the main spacious well lit bathroom with bath, there is a separate walk-in shower room. Electric heating. About 20 metres away is a secure garage with one parking place. This is available at extra charge. No Dogs.
