Colomiar, Resugga, CornwallResugga is one of the older farm settlements in the country about 7 miles north of Mevagissey, west of St Austell, 11 miles from Newquay and 3 miles from Heligan. It is a fine collection of old buildings and good Tudor stone work and shares its name with the Celtic hill fort nearby.

In 1283, Michael de Rosugo had to flee after he'd slain his friend with a dagger. Recent occupiers have been more respectable citizens and continued to improve the house. In the eighteenth century the farmer built a fine stable for his own cob, with mounting block, a loft above, barns to each side and a gabled pigeon house, all with thick granite walls and random slate roofs. The front door has fine curved granite quoins and was big enough for a horse and rider. The building faces south and has stone walled gardens both north & south.

Colomiar, ResuggaThis is now an enchanting and interesting house, retaining all the features that have made it a listed building. The central section has a high roofed sitting room and eccentric gallery, with the wings providing bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom. There is a walled garden to the north, safe for the smallest children. The Colomiar is up a long paved farm drive and it is easy to get to the famous coast just south, to which it is said there was once an old smugglers route. The farmers live next door and are happy to show children the animals and the walks around the farm. The visitors’ book is full of admiration and pleasure at the house, its surroundings and the friendly reception. The house is in green country but convenient to visit the coast and beaches, Newquay, Heligan, The Eden Project, Charlestown, indeed The Colomiar is well placed.

Colomiar, Resugga kitchen (wonderful The Colomiar is a beautiful small house with big features and lots of architectural interest. It has a random rag slate roof, fine stonework and mullions, oak framed mullion windows, granite walls and two stone arch doorways. The roof-high sitting room has a tiny gallery, wood burner, TV & a sofa bed. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. The country style kitchen includes Rayburn & microwave and there is always warmth from the oil fired Rayburn. There are also electric radiators and the wood burner. There is a detached utility room with washing machine and drier & freezer. Electricity and wood are included in the rent. There is good parking, a safe north garden walled right round - good for small children - a walled south facing garden and plenty of space on the estate to wander. Barbecue. Dogs usually allowed.
