South and south east of Bodmin is a wild, pastoral, beautiful and little known land. The Barley Crush is at Treveddoe Farm half way down a green cul-de-sac valley to the south of Bodmin moor. The Barley Crush looks over the pastures and woodland of the farm & was a barn probably rebuilt in the 19th century, until converted in 2001. The house is beautifully and simply fitted out, with an upstairs sitting room, a second outside stair, an enclosed walled garden, a games barn and many quirky features. It has central heating. It was intended, with Treveddoe, to let the owners’ large family all get together, so can be taken with Treveddoe Farmhouse some 40 yards away, to sleep up to 12.
The house is in a tranquil setting & feels a long way from anywhere, although only ten minutes from more well known areas. It is ideal for walkers and those who want to get away from it all and also has direct access onto the Moor. The river Warleggan tumbles along its southern boundary. There are good walks through the semi-ancient woodland, with beautiful wild flowers in the spring. This is a good base for exploring Cornwall but it’s always lovely to get back to the farm after a day out. The nearest good country pub is a couple of miles east, and you can walk to the beautiful village church of Warleggan.
The Barley Crush is an upside down house with large sitting room upstairs. From the walled garden a glazed door opens into the large kitchen-breakfast room, which is a joy. It has dishwasher, electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, high chair, and everything else you could need, leaving a great space for the farmhouse table and chairs. The main hall is a step up and has boiler, washing machine, tumble dryer, cupboard for coats & boots, and a porch outside. The open stairs are gated top and bottom, & lead to the large upstairs sitting room, which has exposed beams, TV and video, payphone and a wood-burning stove. Another glazed door opens from the sitting room onto old stone steps down to the garden.
One bedroom with kingsize bed and its own bathroom is upstairs under sloping ceilings, the other is downstairs, also with bathroom. This bedroom has a third full size bed if needed. The downstairs table can seat more so that, if let with Treveddoe next door, larger groups can eat here. Games room in barn across the lane. Walking around farm allowed. Oilfired Central Heating, double glazing. Wood for the fire is supplied. Natural spring water supply. The surrounding fields have cattle and sheep but controlled dogs are allowed. High Chair
